Camp's Bay

The first night in Cape Town, our hostel had a traditional "braai", which is a barbeque. We ate snook (local fish) and had wayyyy too much South African wine but made some new friends. Needless to say, we were not ready to conquer Cape Town. The hop on/hop off bus seemed like a good idea at the time but the buses never showed up. Normally I am a huge fan of these buses and have great success with them in other cities. Its a great way to get around and see a number of sites in one day.

We had heard the beach at Camp's Bay could be very windy at times, but it was hot, sunny and dry. The water was absolutely freezing and we couldn't swim. Instead, we were able to climb on all of the boulders around the beach and lay out.

The strip right by the beach is a great surfer-esq town. Its full of cute restaurants, great bars and cafes. Sunday night is the big night out here! It reminded me of Laguna Beach and Malibu in California. The houses are set on the side of Table Mountain and look out onto the beach.

Next time - we decided that we are going to stay at the Camps Bay Hotel directly across from the beach. It's very Miami-esq and glam and gorgeous. Check it out here : http://www.thebay.co.za/

The water is freezing - around 50 degrees. Too cold to swim!
